How long have you been an artist? Art school, or no?
I have an architecture degree form Sydney University, I didn't go to art
school.
Where do you get ideas (“inspiration”)
for your work?
they're travel sketches from my dreams and nightmares
What were your favorite projects to-date,
and what is on the horizon?
working with Beck on my sketchel project, painting a Vader helmet for
the 30th anniversary of Star Wars show, my 2 books Vinyl Will Kill (first
book in the world on designer toys) and the new book Jeremyville Sessions,
working with people like Geoff McFetridge, MTV, Bigfoot, Lego, and 300
more collaboration projects.
What was new, in terms of your creative
process, about the HdA project?
trying to wake up early enough to get the complimentary breakfast at the
Hotel, I'm not a morning person.
Did any of the other HdA artists or their
work impact your own project?
The HdA concept as a whole, motivated me. It was cool to be surrounded
by so much art as I painted. I painted bagels because I was hungry at
the time, and was looking forward to breakfast. Same with the dude holding
the coffee. I didn't plan the work, I just started painting and thought
about stuff as I went along.
What goals do you try to fulfill in creating your art? How would you describe
your aesthetic? How is it connected to who you are?
To rescue drowning characters from the stream of consciousness... My characters
are fragments of me, add their molecules together and they make up Jeremyville
What is the distinction, if any, between “graphic design”
and “art”? Do you think of yourself as an artist, a designer,
something else, or all of the above? How does having a business/brand
impact your aesthetic?
I'm project based, so I work first from the concept and that can manifest
itself in many mediums from fine art, graphic design, animation, product
design, publishing, apparel, murals. I don't know how to label what I
do, except to say that Jeremyville is a project based concept.
Other
thoughts that you'd like to include?
Stay Golden.
